If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a photographer, it’s this: the best photos happen when people feel like themselves. And man, Ashley & Steven were 100% themselves during their gorgeous, flower-filled engagement session at Wooster Square Park in New Haven, CT.
Before I dive into their story (and show off the photos, obviously), quick intro: I’m a wedding and engagement photographer, recently transplanted from Connecticut to Sarasota, Florida, where I now get to soak up the sun, shoot in epic spots like Siesta Key, and meet incredible couples all over Florida’s Gulf Coast.
But before I said goodbye to New England bagels and fall leaves, Ashley & Steven gave me the chance to document a sweet, springtime session that deserves its moment in the spotlight.
Wooster Square Vibes (aka Cherry Blossom Heaven)
We kicked things off in Wooster Square Park, which, if you’ve never been, is basically Connecticut’s answer to D.C. during cherry blossom season—just with less traffic and better pizza.
Ashley wore this effortlessly cool outfit that popped perfectly against the pink blooms, and Steven brought the classic “cool fiancé who’s secretly into this” energy that I live for. We strolled under the flowering trees, laughed about who’s more photogenic (spoiler: they both crushed it), and got some seriously romantic shots with petals literally falling around them like a movie scene.
Court Street’s Cobblestone Charm
After soaking up the blooms, we wandered over to Court Street, one of those beautifully manicured New Haven spots that feels like it was built just for engagement sessions. Think charming brick buildings, iron railings, and cobblestone walks that make you want to grab a glass of wine (or two).
Ashley & Steven were total naturals—kissing, dancing, and goofing off without a care in the world. And that’s exactly the kind of session I love to shoot: one where your personalities shine brighter than any backdrop.
