A Sunset-Soaked Coastal Engagement Session Full of Movement and Adventure

Dave and Charlotte’s engagement session was my first time photographing at Narragansett Beach, and I can confidently say it won’t be my last. Within a short walking radius, this coastal stretch offers an incredible mix of textures, landscapes, and light — making it perfect for couples who want their session to feel natural, exploratory, and fun.

Starting With Soft Coastal Textures

We began the session surrounded by sand dunes and tall beach grass, which created a calm, neutral backdrop to ease into things. This area was perfect for warming up — wide open, quiet, and full of soft movement as the grass shifted in the breeze.

These early moments are always important. They allow couples to settle in, get comfortable together, and ease into being photographed without feeling rushed.

Exploring Contrast: From Ruins to Rocky Shorelines

From the dunes, we made our way toward the ruins of an old structure tucked near the beach. The contrast between weathered stone and open coastline added depth and variety to their gallery, giving the session a slightly editorial edge without feeling forced.

Just around the corner, long grass framed a narrow footpath that led us straight to the rocky shoreline. This transition — from soft to rugged — mirrored the adventurous energy Dave and Charlotte naturally brought to the session.

Champagne, Laughter, and Golden Hour Light

Once we reached the rocks, Dave and Charlotte popped champagne and leaned fully into the moment. These kinds of unscripted interactions are often where the strongest images come from — real laughter, movement, and connection without over-posing.

As the sun dipped lower, the sky kept evolving. Just when it seemed like golden hour had peaked, it continued delivering — including clouds that looked like arrows streaking across the sky, which made for some especially fun and dramatic frames.

Ending the Session Exactly How It Felt

To close out the session, Dave and Charlotte didn’t hesitate — they ran straight into the water at sunset. No second guessing, no hesitation, just pure joy. It was the perfect ending: playful, spontaneous, and completely true to them.

Even as we waited for their ride, the sky continued to glow, giving us a few final moments to capture the calm after the adventure.
